Pop-Up Noise! Local Motif: A Moving Art Exhibition

(National Arts Council’s Noise Singapore and the Band of Doodlers present Noise! Local Motif - A moving art exhibition in the trains)

Downtown Line, 2019

Singapore illustration collective, Band of Doodlers selected 29 youths from diverse backgrounds to be part of Noise! Local Motif, a Noise! Anchor Programme that provides co-creation opportunities for the young people from all walks of life to deepen their interest in illustration.

With the theme as “Connecting People, Correcting Perceptions”, the mentorship programme aims to foster a sense of community among the youth by bringing the 29 participants together with beneficiaries from various Social Sector Organisations (SSOrgs) such as Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS) and SPD to name a few. The youths were given a platform to interact and be inspired by their peers from the SSOrgs at art jamming sessions, and under the guidance of experienced artists as the exhibition in two Downtown Line trains from 22nd of March to the 16th of May 2019. The art showcase was graced by SPS Baey Yam Keng.

Noise! Local Motif is the first Noise! Singapore Anchor programme to partner SSOrgs and involve their beneficiaries in the creation process. It is also the first of its kind as an arts programme by youths and for youths, to be held in MRT trains - made available and free for everyday commuters to appreciate the arts. Mas Shafreen, founder of the Band of Doodlers says, “We all crave connections, and the community provides us the perfect platform to fulfil this. This is why we are always excited for opportunities to co-create and give back in meaningful ways.”
