Adeline Thng (b.1985, Singapore) is an artist building a singular style from the use of embroidery and mathematics to explore color, line, and form. She constructs fractal pattern using a combination of stitches, modern materials, latest technology and craft traditions. Inspired by the work of Piet Mondrian, Frank Stella, and Leslie Wilkes, Thng’s works are packed with colorful shapes and geometric simplicity, giving the impression of play through evoking childhood building blocks and playfulness. The usage of modern materials sets the focus on the embroidered surfaces that create a visual effect sitting in between two-dimensional flatness and three-dimensional pop-ups.
